Our team worked with Strathcona County’s Economic Development and Tourism Department to develop a Tourism Strategy and Implementation Plan. The purpose of the strategy was to provide a shared vision for tourism in Strathcona County, a framework for stakeholders to collaborate, and a direction for tourism development over the next 10 years. Important components of the strategic planning process included extensive stakeholder and community consultation, detailed destination analysis, a tourism readiness assessment, vision and strategy development, target market identification, and implementation planning.
Strathcona County’s tourism readiness was assessed using eight key indicators. Ultimately, it was determined that the County is ready to pursue tourism development.
A compelling case for investment in tourism was made as part of the strategic planning process. The result will be enhanced economic and social benefits for the community.
The strategy contained 76 action items, grouped into 24 priority initiatives, across 4 overarching focus areas.
18 key performance indicators were developed to support the implementation of the strategy.
